15 Positive Steps to College Success and Personal Wellness

  • Look for the Choose Orange logo and make healthier food choices. Focus on more fruits, veggies, and whole grains vs. fried or high sugar items.

  • Stay active. Walk to class; take the stairs; use the Colvin Center; play intramurals. Find a friend who enjoys working out, so you can motivate each other.

  • Get some sleep!Go to bed early at least one night a week.

  • Eat regular meals to limit late night snacking. Keep your room stocked with healthy snacks, such as fruit, vegetables, yogurt, and pretzels.

  • Drink plenty of water. Even mild dehydration can cause headaches or fatigue. Plus, it gives you the feeling of ebing "full", ans suppresses your appetite.

  • Get involved! Join a club. listen to someone else's music. Dance. Get to know someone whose style is very different from yours. Play games. Have a movie night. Enjoy the outdoors while you can.

  • Embrace diversity. Get to know people different from you. Learn a new language. Eat interesting and unusual food.

  • Give something back. Tutor. Walk for the cure. Raise money for your cause. Build a house. Read to a child. Give a compliment. Be a mentor.

  • Go to class. Sounds like a no-brainer, but some students forget that they are here to go to school. Even if the class doesn't take attendance, you need to go!

  • Form study groups for tough classes and tests.

  • Meet your spiritual needs. Write in your journal. Take a quiet walk. Meditate. Go to a place of worship. Go to someone else's place of worship.

  • Be good to yourself. Pay attention to your feelings. Talk to a friend. Cry occaionally. Laugh daily. Smile in the mirror. Focus on accomplishments. Learn from your mistakes.

  • Challenge yourself intellectually. Take some courses that stretch you. Consider subjects that you know nothing about.

  • Practice time management. Learn to say "no". Saying "no" to parties, movies, etc., does not make you a terrible person.

  • Wear orange often. Show your OSU pride. A Cowboy is forever!
